Getting Settled

We’re back in Kenya and getting settled again.  I knew I was missing it, but it really hit me when we arrived how much…the moist breeze laden with the aromas of damp soil and flowers, the lush green fields (especially now during rainy season), and the rolling hillsides of the mountainous area we call home. … Continue reading »

Jesus Wept

I lost another young friend to cancer yesterday.  She was about my age, a nurse with compassion and zeal for life.  Since we formed our cancer support group for young women over 6 years ago, and each year brings heart-wrenching loss as I watch fellow warriors fall long before their time.  It’s even harder for … Continue reading »

Take time to smell the roses

I got to ride my old bike tonight on my favorite run around Draper Lake, thanks to a generous friend!  I forgot how much I loved my evening rides in the summer, from wildlife sightings to the varying temperature currents and fragrances that one can really only experience on a motorcycle.  Tonight I had a … Continue reading »

Blessings in Breast Cancer

August 1st is an important day in the Troup family.  First of all, August 1st 1998, I married Dale Troup, the love of my life, in a beautiful outdoor wedding in Manitou Springs, CO.  When we said our vows that day, we affirmed we would be together for richer or poorer, for better or worse, … Continue reading »

2011 – A Year in Review

As we start the venture into a new year, I wanted to update everyone on our past year’s events (especially since I’ve been so terrible about blogging!).  We’ve also got some big news of how our lives are going to change over the course of this year. Crazy Weather and…Earthquakes? As a meteorologist, you know … Continue reading »

Remembering 9-11 and our response

Where were you on 9-11?  This is the question for our generation as we remember the horrors of this day ten years ago.  This photo journal answers that question, retraces my involvement in our response, and honors those who are still fighting to protect our freedom. The fall of 2001, I was a lieutenant in … Continue reading »

A ride through the country

I treated myself to a lovely 50+ mile ride in the countryside today. The air was saturated with the intoxicating aroma of damp woodlands, fresh-cut fields, and honeysuckle that seemed to line the roadways everywhere. The bright green fields were spotted with every imaginable color: indian paintbrush, buttercup, cornflower, daisies, and countless other blossoms. The greatest … Continue reading »
